Kay was born November 21, 1925, the 7th of 10 children.
During high school, Kay would spend her summers in New York, staying with her sister Ann who was living and working there.
After graduating from Beaverdale High School in 1943, she entered Nursing School in Johnstown and earned a degree as a Registered Nurse.
After Nursing School, she continued to live and work in Johnstown.
In 1948 while living in Johnstown, her girlfriend, Rose Hetrick arranged a blind date for Kay. She went to Lilly for the date and met James Moyer for the first time.
On June 28, 1952 she married James Moyer in Saint Brigid’s Catholic Church in Lilly.
Jim worked for the United Mine Workers Union. After their wedding, Kay and Jim moved to Washington, DC. Thereafter, they moved to Silver Spring, Maryland where they raised their 6 children. Subsequently they moved to St. Clairsville, Ohio.
